Hiatal Hernia? Really?

Hi All, I have a question for people out there with hiatal hernia's - last week I went to the ER with severe chest pain, nausea, sweating, and light headedness (I came very close to passing out), this all happened after I ate a meal. I had a complete work up in the ER on the my heart, a cat scan, blood work, xray and all came back ok. The ER Docs said it could possibly be 'sludge' passing through the bile ducts which can happen even after you've have your gallbladder removed (had mine removed 4 years ago). When I followed up with my primary care Doc he seemed to think it could be a hiatal hernia. BTW - this felt exactly like a gallbladder attack..but hence, no gallbladder. I have a endoscopy/ colonoscopy scheduled soon to hopefully get to the bottom of this (no pun intended). Need less to say my health anxiety is all stirred up. So....any hiatal hernia people out there that have had similar symptoms?

Hello Beth, if you are suspected of having an hiatal hernia, then please see a GI doctor. He will probably do an barium swallow xray to 'see' the hernia. He should place you in several positions while swallowing the chalky material and check for the hernia. I'm sure the docs will solve it. ( I have not experienced your symptoms-- just making a suggestion as the doctor saw my daughters HH-- ask the radiologist himself doing the swallow to specifically look for it. We asked him to check for it as the ordering doc did not write it on the order.). I sincerely wish you well. I've not read your other comments that you posted.

I had my gallbladder removed many years ago with no issues, although I've heard many people say that they still experience gallbladder symptoms even after the surgery. Your symptoms could be caused by a number of things, so it's best to get the testing done. Keep in mind that anxiety can cause/make symptoms seem worse. And, a lot of people have hernias and don't even realize it.
