Dexilant and rectal pain?

I couldn't overcome my panick to undergo the impedance test esp after doctor instructed me to stay in hospital and not to move a lot. I told him that the purpose was to measure reflux while I'm performing my daily activities. Hence, he's defeating the purpose of the study. I asked him to ask my GI to change my meds and replace Nexium with Dexilant. I was put on Dexilant 60mg. I was hoping it would succeed but by night I got severe cramps and now I'm having severe rectal pain. Could this happen from just one capsule? I'm a Crohn's patient and have got resistant proctitis that even Remicade cannot control. Could it be that Dexilant aggravated my symptoms though they have been at bay for some time? Took Nexium again in the morning but I think I need to give Dexilant another chance before I tell my GI that I failed this, too.

We aren't medical professionals, so there's no way that we can tell whether the Dexilant gave you the rectal pain. Since you only took one pill, and you do have Crohn's, I would call the doctor and ask him if you should continue with the Dexilant.

i have taken Dexilant for years now for Gerds and not had those issues. I have stomach pain now, at times burning in my stomach but it's because my U.C. is flared up. Good luck.

SharonZ and Jump1959, thank you. I gave Dexilant another chance and hope things go on well. I think one dose of Dexilant is not as effective as 2 doses of Nexium. I read some threads in this forum where patients take a double dose of Dexilant 60mg but my GI said it's only one dose. I need to talk to him about this.

If the Dexilant doesn't work for you, ask your doctor to try something different - but give the Dexilant some time to work. Everyone is different, but the PPI that I got the most relief from was Protonix.

For the second time, 10-11 hours after I take Dexilant, I get this horrible rectal pain. I checked the side effects and found proctititis which I already have as a side effect. It's weird that a PPI would aggravate my proctitis. I think it must be one of the excipients.
