I just very recently had Nissen surgery. I could actually eat and drink better while I was in the hospital the first two days. Since I have been off pain medicine the following is what I think might be occurring and I am wondering if it is happening to anyone else. I feel that I am producing a lot of excess saliva and clear mucus and it is not draining all the way down into my stomach. Especially at night. When I try to eat or drink most of the items on the list that is OK it seems to go sort of OK, but within minutes I regurgitate all of it very quickly and forcefully, but it does not hurt to do so. I feel it actually never makes it past my LES, just pools in my upper esophagus. The only things I am certain mostly stay down and are keeping me from dehydrating are popsicles made of strawberry puree and lukewarm unsweetened tea with a splash of lemonade. I am able to get a little soft food (not milk, which has never ever been an issue in my entire life) to stay down mid day after I have already spit up a lot of earlier sips or small bites with all that excess saliva and mucus.
