Linx Procedure - endless tests

I am writing on behalf of my father (89) who is getting a Linx procedure in a few weeks. He has been subjected to many tests over the last several months, and is due for more visits & tests in the next 2 weeks. I get that they want to make sure he can physically handle it, but it is extremely difficult for him to get around due to knee problems, and going to all these appointments is taxing. I've been through surgeries, and also supported others (including dad) numerous times, and have never, ever seen this many pre-op tests and nonsense visits. One of these pre-op tests is with the anesthesiologist; I've NEVER seen anyone have a pre-op in-office visit with the anesthesiologist. That's typically a few minutes, in the pre-op area. I think they are now re-running tests that have already been done before. I'm not a doctor, but I just have a feeling that this is all excessive CYA or Running Up The Bill. I think he is being mistreated by these doctors and facilities, treading the line between barely medically justifiable and unethical.
So I am wondering from y'all here, how much pre-op stuff did you go through? Was it three months of consultations, tests, visits to talk about the tests, more tests, and useless pre-op visits? For a minimally invasive out-patient procedure?

Thank you. I do believe he is up to it, he's strong. He can not continue as he is, hacking and semi-vomiting every day. Whatever the risks of the surgery, it is preferable to the discomfort he is in now. It is not within my power to cancel it, that is still entirely up to him, I am just trying to sweep away as much of the nonsense as I can. I know how doctor's can get. Sometimes they need some push back.

I had linx surgery in 2013 and esophagus stretched following year. I had few issues during recovery and Gerds reduced considerably. Surgery was performed by Dr. Lipham who help develop the ring. In summer 2017 the ring eroded/invaded my esophagus and was removed in 2 procedures August and October, 2017. Linx ring manufacturer’s surgeon came to CA to be present during first surgery when 7 rings which had eroded into the esophagus were removed by Dr. Lipham. I was told at that time I was the 23rd person to have ring removed due to erosion. By the way, I first started experiencing difficulties swallowing like those around 7-8 weeks after ring placement: bread catching, certain fresh veggies getting caught. Gradually more difficulties swallowing with added increased pain increased. Finally pain became so severe I went to ER and received erosion diagnosis. FYI - only go to hospital which affiliates with a Linx ring surgeon or no one will understand your pain. I fortunately had ER doctor agree to call Linx surgeon while I was still in ER and proper diagnosis was reached.

However since second surgery in fall 2017 to remove remaining rings, I have not been contacted by anyone, Linx or Dr. Lipman. about a year ago I started experiencing occasional difficulty swallowing bread, etc. like I experienced while recovering from the initial ring placement surgery, same location. A swallowing test revealed reduced inconsistent swallowing. My question is: could scar tissue be growing around area damaged at erosion site by shrinking the esophagus? Could this scar tissue be compromising the nerves that are involved with the swallowing process or a combination of the two? I have not been able to find any information regarding complications post Linx removal surgery due to erosion.
