23 months

Hi am am 23 months on after my nissen fundoplication I had my surgery on 4th March 2020, I was told I’d be in clear fluids for a month then liquid foods for a further 6-8 weeks. On day 3 I was told by the surgeon I should be eating weetabix cereal scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes.

I was a bit taken aback by this and so were the nurses.

I was discharged 4 hours later after the surgeon watched me in absolute agony try to eat the cereal.

I have not been called back for post op checks scans or even had any phone calls to check how I was/am, despite my GP and Gastroenterologist contacting the surgeon to arrange a follow up! Many times I might add. (Covid had just hit the country at the time of my op and we went into lockdown)

To say I have felt things haven’t been right from the start is an understatement.

Over the last few days I have had (along with the rest of my family) a Bug and physically could not be sick despite all the dry heaving, literally nothing. To say it was painful would be putting it mildly but the pain eased after a few minutes. A day on after no more dry heaving and I am in absolute agony feels like I’ve just had the op and it’s the pain from the gas used to expand my chest all over again.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

It can sometimes take longer than a few weeks to notice any difference in taking a new medication. If you haven't had a recent endoscopy, you should schedule one, especially if you are just switching medications and not getting any relief.
