Hi Jacky, now that cold weather has filtered down my way my elbows & lower arms are getting the thick scales & plaques. A friend's husband has this & she said try olive oil. The olive oil really helps a lot on the thick plaques. Actually, better than any script I have used. It moisturizes & softens them quite well. I also have one ear with it, but this is all mild compared to the problems I use to have with it. The steroid creams can cause the skin to thin which I already have & would much rather use the olive oil, lol.
I have crohns disease & was doing infusions every 4 weeks with a drug used for it. After nearly 4 years of this I developed antibodies to it & drug induced Lupus. I was then switched to Humira an injection & the psoriasis went full bloom. Thats when I had nothing but raw skin on the bottoms of my feet & hands. I ended up with cellulitis infections on my legs & in & out of the hospital. So, I stopped the Humira because it too kept the Lupus situation active & made the psoriasis much worse. I have managed much better on my own that what the dermatologist ever did. Supposedly, according to the original dermatologist this guy is the guru on it, lol, not for me. However, not to discredit him, I have very unusual reactions with most medications so much of this is my weird makeup, lol.
My daughter has hemachromotosis(?) I usually spell it wrong. This is an AI disease & usually found in men more so than females. Also, its called Iron Man's Disease because it is caused by iron overload. She is not able to get rid of the iron because she rarely has a monthly. She has been this way all of her life. Left untreated it can damage the vital organs & some have died from it. She goes every other month to have a unit of blood out taken to help lower the iron. Her gi would prefer she do it monthly & she tried but she just couldn't handle how bad it made her feel for a few days & her hair started falling out. So they have agreed to every other month as long as her numbers stay decent. She is now diabetic & has a lot of arthritis from this. She got pretty sick before getting diagnosed. For years her labs showed an extremely high iron numbers & the drs would all ask her, what do you do eat nails for breakfast. This started when she was 19, I believe. She finally found a pcp who immediately picked up on it & sent her to a specialist.
She had to change her diet completely, avoids anything that has iron in it including any vitamins & supplements. She has a yearly ultrasound of the liver because it can cause problems with it. Knock on wood & a specialist that knows about the disease she is as stable as she can be considering she went untreated for many years.
I hope that Neostrata may have a shampoo that will help you out. Keep me posted.
