Hello,

I am new to this forum. I have several questions if I may.

I have received three injections in knee for replacement of joint fluid. Could I speak to someone that has had this. How soon does it work? How much pain does it relieve? Does your knee catch?

Yes, I have the fluid injections done twice and both times it worked. I have heard of a total knee replacement "catching". A total knee replacement is an in hospital surgery and the last resort.

There is another option called a cortisone shot which has also worked very well for me.

Everybody is different but I do hope you feel better soon.

I had the series of injections to my knee about three times over a three-year period. My doctor always put lidocaine in the injection so I had immediate pain relief. By the time all the effect of the lidocaine wore off (within 6 hours) my knee was much better. Each series lasted between 9 & 18 months.

I wanted to wait for surgery until after my retirement. Have now had the replacement and it has been very successful for me.

I've had them in both knees. The injection takes only seconds and the lido makes it a bit easier. I felt immediate relief and still enjoying the same relief 13 months later. Can't say the injections were exactly pain free but, it only lasts as long as the time it took to do it. Good luck.

I have had both the Cortisone and artificial sinovial fluid shots, and they did zero to relieve the severe OA pain in my knees. The pain from getting a 3" needle pushed under my patella was excruciating! I remember after one of the injections it took me 1/2hr to walk back to my car that was about 500ft away in the lot. (Had to stop every 10ft)

I have however had good luck with a cortisone shot for pain in my elbow that was caused by overuse at work. Remember being in pain for weeks and a couple days after the shot I realized the pain was gone! Funny how quick we forget about pain when it's not interfering with our everyday lives.

yes at times the pain isnt therewhen we dont think about it.
was your elbow anything like tennis elbow? my trk's are still doing great. had them done in 2011 & 2012. any questions about the knees just ask. i had those shots in the knees to replace the fluid too. didnt do me any good. cortizone never helped me at all.

Not to hijack someone elses thread, but Yes, it was tennis elbow.
I am going for a consult with my Orthos Surgeon Friday to discuss the options for my knees. Had them both scoped in the last year. Went into surgery thinking I was getting a Microfracture procedure and when I woke up I was told the damaged areas were too large. Looks like I'm looking at a partial replacement soon. (Patella)
