My tinnitus comes and goes. This started well before I had to wear hearing aids but I'm not sure if it's related to my hearing loss. In any case, I had gone to an ENT for the tinnitus and it was explained that there was really no medical solution, but as firefighter says, sometimes background white-noise can help our brain tune out the tinnitus. There might be a reason you have it though, like taking too many aspirins, so if you are on aspirin on a daily basis you might consider that. One thing that strikes me about your post is that you mentioned ear pain. I would be concerned about any ear pain and I think you need to see a doctor for that. It could be allergies or infection or something else, so to rule out causes, I think your ears should be checked out for and ENT. Best of luck.
