wheezing and tightness in chest and thoat

  I'm a newbie looking for answers, it's been a long trip but basically i've had 2 years of tight chest and throat and horrible wheezing 24/7, usually on forced expiration and toniight i also have pain on my left side.  I t even hurts when i try to yawn, i have had methacoline tests, negative, lung function, negative, allergy test negative, no joke about 30 other tests all came up neg, according to drs.  but i still have a hard time breathing, i still wheeze and still get horrible tigtness in the chest,  I f anyone has any ideas i'd love to hear from you.

i was in emergency more than once and they did x-rays i assume they checked for that as well, We are truly perplexed, my Dr has told me more than once " we've turned you inside out" and he can't figure it out. The pulmonologist also heard me wheeze before we started the tests and told me to finish up anyways, After i finished he told me because the tests where neg. that it wasn't coming form my lungs but from my throat, or what they call paradoxycal vocal chords bu the ENT specialist in vcd said no. I am truly at my wits ent and i am suffering. Unless this pulmonologist, who is supposed to be tops in the city royaly screwed up i don't know where else to go. Needless to say our medicare system has gone to the dogs.

Do you have a feeling of something in your throat? Excess mucus in a cough?
You may have LPR (it's acid reflux in your throat). Sometimes you don't get the "burn". Just to rule it out go see a Gastroenterologist and get tested.
One pretest you could try before going, is to take an acid reducer for a couple of weeks and see if the wheezing stops. If it stops then you have a possible answer.

Not necessarily, Mary. Sometimes people who suffer from LPR are not helped by taking Nexium.
Ask your gastroenterologist to do these following tests on you:
barium swallow, pH test, and manometry test.
The problem with LPR the reflux can get into your lungs causing asthma like behavior. There're very few gastroenterologist who are beginning to realize the connection between LPR and asthma. That is a quote from my surgeon who operated on me 14 months ago.
I suffered from silent reflux/LPR for three years. I had constant coughing, wheezing,a choking sensation in my throat and loss of voice. Everyone was scratching their heads at what was wrong with me. I went through four doctors before one doctor said less run all these tests. The moment he saw the barium swallow he knew that the reflux was spilling over into my lungs causing coughing, wheezing, choking, and loss of voice.
The EGD only tells if there is damage inside the esophagus and stomach from the acid reflux and if you have a hiatal hernia. It does not always show the damage in your windpipe from the acid spillage.

thankx for your reply, I supposedly do have lpr and was on Nexium 40.mg 2x aday for 1 1/2 years i saw no difference. yes i did with tight throat, wich went from being tight 24/7 to being tight half the time, but the tight chest a nd wheezing has not gotten better. The thing is, that supposedly i don't have allergies but at the same time i developped very bad, horrible infact post nasal drip, i mean i'm swallowing this stuff all day, it's gross and i'm always clearing my throat or trying to couh, the only thing i noticed that helps is reactine, once i take it i occasionaly clear my throat rather than doing it all day long, it's very weird. When i say i'v done all the test, i mean i think i've done almost all the tests that can be done to a person, next week i'm going for a gallium ct scan. I've done 2 gastroendoscopies, i have a u shaped rather than j shaped stomack and a small hiatal hernia, but that's it, if acid reflus was the problem nexium would have solved it.
