Do you still need Benzo's with SSRI

Just wondering how many of you take an SSRI and still need a benzo

Many of us on AD's need a benzo. Some of us take them regularly, some just as needed and some of us just carry them on us (purses, pockets), as a "safety net." I carried them for years in my purse "just in case." I never took them bc I didn't need them but knowing they were there was all the peace of mind I needed.

It's a personal & medical choice. If you need them, so be it. Sometimes they're just needed temporarily until we get back on our feet. This year I took them regularly (xanax), for 4? months & now just take as needed. I was not addicted even tho that was a concern of mine & I had no side effects going off of them regularly.

Dr gave me Atarax for the first 3 months when I started meds, because I had extreme sleeping problems.
Then after I was able to sleep he cut off Atarax and I continued with my SSRI.
That was all I had, but it is not comparable with Xanax and such meds. Or maybe it's in the same category, since it's also a sedative. I don't know :)

I've been on SSRIs for 22 years and at the very beginning, I needed benzos too. After a while, the SSRI alone was sufficient. Right now, I am on Prozac and Abilify along with a benzo. The benzo is likely temporary as I had a setback and I had to have my meds readjusted.
If your doctor gives you a benzo with your SSRI, don't worry. In time, all will work out! :)

I have been taking Paxil since June. I am just starting to feel the effects though i think I have physical things going on besides the anxiety. it is hard to tell them apart.

atrax is not a benzo but a antihistimine. its what zyrtec is made from. i used it as a sleep aid for a while. its not addicting and a safer alt to benzos. trouble is many dr,s dont know to prescribe it as an anti anxiety drug. its otc in some countrys i believe.
