Anyone take Toprol?

My doctor prescribed me 25mg and I wonder if anyone has had any good or bad results from this beta blocker?

I haven't taken this exact beta blocker, but I have tried Propanolol (or however you spell it) and I really felt a difference in my physical symptoms. Even though the emotional anxiety was still somewhat there, the fact that my hands weren't shaking and my heart wasn't pounding and my body wasn't vibrating helped the mental aspect :).

Thank you for sharing! A great deal of my anxiety is physical, so while I'm scared, I think taking the beta blocker might be right for me. Do you still take yours?

Park, i use to take that same bata blocker, i quit several years ago, "tapered off slowly", i am very active
and i had my heart slowed down to about 48-50 my BP was fine so the doctor took me off, i still take an
ace inhibitor and a calcium channel blocker, THis drug will keep your heart from running away, Peace

Thanks for sharing! My fear is that I don't really belong on a beta blocker and at some point I'm going to have to taper off, when I really should never have started. My BP is usually around 110/75 and my average HR is in the mid 70's. I just don't wanna add to the drugs that I take, if it's not necessary. However, my oanic attacks are triggered heavily by racing heart 90-100's and I do have risks for heart disease.

I'm so torn.

Anyone have any opinions??

Also, does anyone know why you have to taper off of BB's?

Did you dr say if he wanted you to take it daily or PRN? What mg did he give you?

I've never heard of having to taper to come off a BB and I googled it and still didn't really see anything.

I told my cardiologist I had heard that taking a Benzo with a BB greatly reduced anxiety. I told him what my HR does and he said this would be a good move for me. Then I checked with my GP who agreed, but I did read that you have to taper off of this med and I wondered why.

Wondering why they gave you a BB instead of a calcium channel blocker? I take a CCB and it says (on google, lol) there are less side effects from a calcium channel blocker although I didn't know there were side effects from a BB. Shows what I know, guess everything can have a chance of side effects now days.

Haha! I'm not sure. I mean from what I read there aren't really side effects, but it still says you need a taper. That's why I'm curious!

Well my opinion is to try it and see what you think. It is also suppose to help with heart palps, don't you get those too, or am I thinking of someone else? It really isn't going to hurt you and I'm sure it's a low dose and I can't find anything on google that says to taper off it, although I'm not a doctor and your doctor would probably be the one to ask about tapering or not.

I think in the long run it will help you, I know how much you hate the rapid heartbeat and it will cure that, or should anyway.

Thanks, Lisa. I do get heart palps and I didncheck with my GP who I trust completely and his called it a tiny dose. I just have to bite the bullet and get myself to do it.

In the meantime I just stress ate a bunch of saltines with peanut butter. Sigh. Haha.

No I'm just on Zoloft right now but am considering going back on! I think it's a really good choice/ drug to take since a lot of us are triggered by those physical symptoms

I'm on metaprolol it's pretty similar to toprolol,
I cut the 25 in half because my bp is 90/58 so I can't take a super large dose since it is a drug that has a bp lowering effect , but It helps my racing heart tremendously , I take it eveyday and the reason why people need to taper off is because your body gets used to the drug being in your system and managing the symptoms such as high blooie pressure for example , and if you quit cold turkey your blood pressure might spike so the doctors want to prevent that for patience with high blood pressure and heart Problems , tapering off slowly will give your body time to adjust and during that time people report to their docs on how they are feeling while coming off the meds .

My heart was just pounding at 100 it feels so uncomfortable and unhealthy I just hate the feeling . I wish that the racing heart wasn't a part of anxiety . 😒

Yes that shouldn't matter it might even help if get heart palps when you drink. :)

Well I've been on a BP meds for about 8 years or so, so it is all normal to me. :) I actually take 2 meds for my bp. I just wished the calcium channel blocker I take worked for bring my heart rate down like it is suppose too but I refuse to switch cause a side effect from it is I no longer get migraines, I haven't had a migraine since I start the verapamil 3 years ago and I used to get 3-5 a month and headaches nearly every day which I also don't get anymore. :)

Dear Park, i forgot what strength your bata blocker is, but if its scored and you can break it in half, try

Thanks, Larry! I've been thinking about doing that. It's 25mg and can be broken in half. I think I'll try that tomorrow. I was ready to try tonight, but apparently my 2 year old is sleeping with me. 😁
