I've been informed that my dog is likely going to have to be put to sleep sometime in the next couple of months. Her hearing is deteriorating and she's probably got cancer (she's developed a lot of lumps on her abdomen), which considering her advanced age, is not all that shocking.
I always knew this day would come, but when you've had a companion for over half of your life, you're still not prepared. We first got her over 13 years ago and its hard to imagine life without her.

Hey man. I know how you feel. My dog died about
7 years ago to brain cancer. I am still missing him. It's normal..accept it...but don't forget the joy the dog brought to you.

I'm so sorry NC, losing a fur baby is never easy. My heart goes out to you, but as REI said, remember the good times you had together. We are here for you, so vent anytime you need too. {{{HUGS}}}

Oh no. :( We had to put one of our dogs down 2 yrs ago and I still get so sad thinking about
her and how much I loved her. It's so hard! I'm sorry you're going through this.

Night,
This makes me want to cry. My dog had lung cancer and I still have guilt over a lot of things. I selfishly kept hanging on. To spare myself some bawling, I won't delve into that situation anymore.
It's bothersome to me that dogs do not live longer like parrots do. I am always privileged to come across someone that cares for their furry family members as you do. It sounds to me you gave that pooch a great life and you can hang your hat on that. Father Time is sadly undefeated and probably always will be.
Well, I've been crying for you for a few minutes now because my heart breaks when I see someone go through this pain since I have been there.
An I'm sorry doesn't cut it and will not make your dog's cancer go away, but please know I care and truly feel for you. Please give your pooch a kiss on the nose for me if she doesn't mind that.
Much love to you.

NC.,
I know how difficult this is for you, and I am very sorry. It is really hard to say goodbye...
...and there is just never enough time with our beloved pets.
You gave her a great life here, and I believe she will live on in Heaven...as all beloved pets do!
Enjoy the time you have with her now, and make some great memories to honor her with.
Encouragement and comfort,
S.C.

That's understandable. I've had pets all of my life and it is never easy having to say goodbye. I just lost my 18-year old cat and I'm 30 so I too had her for my than half my life.
I wish you many healing thoughts and you must tell yourself that while you will of course never forget your sweet dog, time will help heal the pain you feel now. It won't always be like this.
I leave you with this poem that gets me every time:

{{{{hugs}}}} I'm so sorry. I completely understand. Know that you are preventing your baby from any suffering, and will be able to give her a peaceful passing.

Well at the moment she doesn't appear to be suffering much. Just the obvious signs of aging.
I know the decision will be made sooner rather than later, it's just a matter of when.
