Colonoscopy/Endoscopy Later Today...feeling anxious

I have a colonoscopy and endoscopy appointment later today and I'm very nervous.  I've seen that other people have gotten support here and I need some.  I am doing the go lightly and find I can't sleep.  Have a headache and feel woozy (dizzy) but I imagine it's the lack of substantial food that you have to avoid in this process.  Anyone have any advice or words of encouragement?

I have never had a colonoscopy myself but my Mum has and she said it was not as bad as what she thought it would be I imagine they will give you a relaxant.

Use any coping skills you have to help with your anxiety and let us know how you get on.

I was nervous too. Thankfully it was much less of a big deal than I thought it would be. They give you an IV and what they put in it really knocks you out fast. I woke up before it ended but thankfully it wasn't anything terrible. It'll be over before you know it!
I'm sure you're dizzy because you haven't had a decent meal!

I've had one too in the past and you don't even feel anything with the medication they give you through the IV. In fact the worse part is drinking that stuff, which I'm sure you've already done. And the funny part is listening to people fart afterwards (they won't let you leave until you've passed gas). I guess I'm a little immature that way, but people farting is funny to me :)

The worst part is the prep. The feeling of peace afterwards knowing everything is okay is awesome. My husband had to stay an hour afterwards because he wouldn't fart. Me, I farted all the way back to the recovery area. Hahahhahaha.....

Thank you for all your kind words. They moved my appointment up to 12:30pm CST because of a cancellation. That shaved a few hours off of my wait which I'm grateful for. I checked my BP this morning as it HAS to be high. It was. I hope they don't cancel because of that. Too much work to get to that point to have it called off. This has been such a roller coaster. I came down with the start of a cold yesterday am and they said they cannot do the procedure unless I could breath out of both nostrils. How the heck to I know what tomorrow would be like. So I took a leap of faith there and so far I'm good. Now the BP thing. I know it's the anxiety (or that crap I had to drink).

I agree the peace of mind will be nice. But of course, the worrier in me is thinking, but what if it isn't...I'm always skeptical because so many tests I take with docs comes up with something. That and of course, I am a year overdo on my Colonoscopy then started getting stomach issues in July. That prompted all of this to happen. So there is something going on, I hope something simple.

Welcome to the Anxiety forum Larz, I'm happy you came here for support, support is one thing we can give you here. :)

I have never had this procedure but as you see many people have, just remember to use any breathing techniques you have to lessen the anxiety and you should be good to go.

You got this and you will do great during the procedure

Yup, same thing happened to me. My blood pressure WAS high but they did go ahead with the procedure. It was really high afterward too and they told me to keep a close eye on it. Thankfully nothing bad came from that.

Try to keep positive thoughts going through your mind...

"All will go well" "I will get through this with no problems" "I am choosing this procedure for my health." " My results will be good."

This is indeed a challenge, but one you can conquer! Let us know how you are doing when you can. :)

Larz, I use to have a colonoscopy every 3 months because of familial polys, I had 90% of my large bowl removed on 1st april this year(no I do not have a bag)I never found colonoscopies to be painfull at all, in fact I found the whole procedure intersting, I use to watch on the monitor. The only thing I found difficult was the laxative and I had to fast for 3 days before because by bowel did not empty easily. Good luck and don't worry.
