Safe for pregnancy...

Hi there I am kind of new... I used to follow the Lyme disease posts, but I am wondering now that the Lyme is gone, I now take Zoloft and ativan... What is safe to take while pregnant? If anything? I am not pregnant yet but I would like to know just in case... I feel like I need something because of my anxiety and horrible OCD.

From what I've heard from friends and coworkers that have been pregnant, Zoloft is generally safe to take while carrying a baby... the risks are minimal. But at the same time, I would double check with your doctor and ask just to be sure.

Ativan on the other hand I'm not too sure, as it is a muscle relaxer, but I have heard use of it during pregnancy.

Again, I would double check with your doctor to make sure :)

Hello and welcome!

It is great that you are thinking ahead in regards to your Rx's and pregnancy! This question is best posed to your OBGYN, who can come up with a plan ahead of the time...so you will be prepared with options.

Some SSRI'S are considered safe during pregnancy, so I am sure you'll be able to work a management plan with the help.of your obstetrician.

As others have said, Zoloft is considered one of the safer medications during pregnancy. It is very well studied. Talk to your doctor about it, but you probably wont need to make any changes there. Zoloft is also very safe for breastfeeding.

Ativan on the other hand, as with any benzo, is not recommended during pregnancy. However, there are times when the benefits outweigh the risks and doctors have prescribed it to pregnant women. This is something you and your doctor will have to discuss and decide the best path for you.

The most important thing for a healthy baby is a healthy mamma. So when/if you get to the point of wanting to become pregnant, focus on keeping yourself happy and healthy will keep baby happy and healthy!
