Since last tuesday my mom's dog has been acting like he was in pain. Whenever he got up, he would cry in great pain. We took him to the vet. I wish he had broken a bone but it's much worse. Neurological problem, his brain signals send the message that he is in pain. The vet told us two options put to sleep or take him to another hopspital to get surgery/therapy. The surgery/ therapy would be expensive definitely into the thousands of dollars. My mom was distress and the vet suggested another option. Right now, he is in medication to see if the behavior passes. 50/50 chance. He no longer crys in pain but he lost feeling in both his legs. He is very healthy. I noticed over the last year that he might had a form of anixety because I know by experience the reaction. So I feel sad for my mom and dog.

Hi Shirley,
Just passing through and your post caught my attention.
I have a soft spot for dogs. They are one of the most caring, loving and forgiving companions anyone can have.
I am sooo sorry to hear about
your mom's dog. What is the dog name? He sounds wonderful.
I am glad that he is not in pain, and the medication seems to be helping. This must be a hard decision for your mom. If your mom wants to proceed with the therapy and surgery, is there any animal shelters or homes that may be able to assist with it so the financial burden would not be on your mom?
My niece and I volunteered in an animal shelter a few months ago. There was one dog, his name is Thunder. He has an imbalance problem but he really touched me. I have not been well for sometime, so I have not been back to the shelter to help, but Thunder is always on on mind.
I am really sorry again. Hope your mom is okay. Thinking about
you guys and the dog as well.

His name is kiwi. I'll ask the vet in the next appointment about
assistance for my mom. My mom really loves him. We found him wondering into our backyard with our (now deceased-old age) dog, playing. He has aggression problems only when he feels threatened but we took him in. He took to my mom quickly. I was going to say it is his back legs that he drags around now. He still use his front arms, eat, pee, and poop. The problem is he is not supposed to walk, run, move too on much but my mom felt bad for him to be in a cage the whole week. So we have him in a room.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news! Your mom amd Kiwi will be in my prayers!
Perhaps a 'Go Fund Me' account amongst her and your friends could help with the needed medical costs? (won't be able to post here due to rules, but on your social media accounts?)
Wishing the best for them!

What type of dog is he and how old?
Many dogs have issues with their rear hips. Please don't let him suffer for the sake of companionship.

It's bin two days and he seems to be getting better. He can't move his back legs, drags them but he is not scared, depressed or hurt. The medication seems to be working except for his legs. He just wants to move around and go outside but the vet adviced us not to let him walk or run.

So sorry to hear about
your Kiwi.I hope medication helps.I had a puppy who had extreme anxiety and would drag his legs when very anxious.
I would get worried .My mom has him but I worry anytime he drags them.
Dogs are just like us emotionally so they get depressed too.
Hope he feels better soon.Praying for dear KIWI.

He is a poodle mix and he is 4 years old. The medications are slowly decreasing because this treatment is only for 28 days. He seems fine other than using his back legs like a table stool. I'm just happy that he seems ok and happy.
