I'm 28 and have had anxiety and some depression since I was 18. I realize that I will always have to live with some level of anxiety, but there are times when I feel like myself and that's great. Recently, over the past two years, I have had some enourmous stressors that have recently been reduced or resolved and I am wondering how long it will take for my body/brain to stop going into fight or flight mode for periods of time. (I was recently diagnosed with GAD which also helped to clarify why all of this is happening)
Two years ago I was diagnosed with chronic lyme disease and was treated with heavy antibiotics for 18 months. After little to no improvement, myself, along with my psychiatrist and a doctor that specializes in Lyme decided that I really never had chronic lyme disease. (The tests would just show up as false positive because I have had lyme in the past, which was treated) The symptoms of my anxiety and how it effected my body was close enough to the broad spectrum of Lyme symptoms so I was nonetheless treated for that 18 months. After going through that hell I was more recently subject to a couple relationships that went downhill very fast after starting well. The second of the two was an enourmous stressor (I'd rather not get into the details.)
Without getting into it too much, I was wondering how long it will take for my brain to sort of "recalibrate" so I will be able to return to my normal self full-time. Like I said, I am well a good amount of the time but I can easily get pushed into an "anxious cycle" which can last 3-5 days.
Thanks so much for your help and guidence, it is much appreciated.
