You said,
"I've been fighting anxiety/panic disorder for 5 years now and was put on Zoloft 150mg daily and very low dose of Xanax on weekends before I go out or when needed on weekends only.
"I woke up early morning checked my phone and 5 mins later breathing trouble like suffocating.. dry throat like I had something stuck then a large warm body flush and heart started racing. Like an adrenaline rush feeling of dread.
"All today I'm having to take large breaths and concentrating on my breathing..
"Does anyone have similar sensations with anxiety?"
"Don't know if the medication has stopped working or Xanax withdrawal? Confused and π«."
Medical mystery.
I'm someone with bipolar who has had anxiety attacks and I don't know what's causing yours, but I have gotten some information on that down from the net.
Where did my panic attacks come from? From my psychiatrist. Thank you.
You see, I came in as depressed and was treated for depression. Wrong! I was actually manic depressed, so when he gave me an antidepressant, it sent my depression into mania and then into anxiety attacks. What I needed was two meds, one for the depression and one for the mania, like Lithium.
So, Webmd.com says, "Have you ever had a history of bipolar (manic-depression)?"
Meaning, if you have, then maybe the antidepressant you're taking (Zoloft) is pushing you into mania and anxiety attacks. Perhaps not, because you've had this anxiety/panic attack disorder for 5 years, and it doesn't sound like the panic attacks come very frequently. Or do they? (Depression is depression and mania is racing mind.)
Webmd.com says, "(Zoloft) is used to treat depression, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder...."
Drugs.com said maintenance dose is 50 mg to 200 mg. So you say you're at 150 mg.
Americanaddictioncenters.org says, "Xanax Withdrawal Symptoms. In general, symptoms of acute withdrawal from benzodiazepines can include:
β’ Anxiety, Panic attacks, Hyperventilation (etc.).
Webmd.com says, "Rebound anxiety can appear quickly, often within 24 hours of stopping your medication (Xanax)."
