ear problem or anxiety please someone help

hi im 24 year old female in good health. ive been suffering with dizziness for 3 months. it is constant. it left me in bed for over a week feeling drunk and i felt swaying and rocking and the floor kept dropping below me. i was given meds but they made me worse. the drs just told me it was vertigo. anways im better than what i was after starting beta blockers theyv helped altho i can jut take 10mg at night as they make me sleepy. i seen an ent who told me he didnt think it was inner ear related as i dont have spinning vertigo and sent me home. now im left feeling
spaced out
out of body
nausea
blurry eye sight
feel like im swaying

these symptoms are so scary i dont know what to do

can any of you give me advice could this really be anxiety im just not convinced

I've had this, it lasted for 4-6 months, if I remember correctly it was closer to the 6 months mark, they said they didn't see any fluids in my ears but gave me something for it, I think an antibiotic that did nothing, one of the doctor's told me that it is something that sometimes happens and you have to wait it out, can take a few months, I was scared to death and thought something was terribly wrong, and thought they were wrong, but guess what? It went away on it's own in time just like the doc said.

I remember laying in bed and the room would spin, I would roll over to my side, and the spinning would start back up, as long as I laid still MOSTLY it would stop, but the moment I sat up, laid down, switched sides in bed, everything would spin, spin, spin and the floor drop thing happened during this time too.

I have been told that this mostly happens to women, and I remember another woman telling me her's was so bad, she had to crawl around on the floor because she couldn't walk, her's also went away eventually, God only knows why this happens.

If your doctors have checked you out and everything is coming back fine, then I'm going to assume you have the same thing I did, and many other women have, try not to worry about it, I know that's next to impossible, but it will resolve itself in time, good luck, we're here for you.

I get dizzy every day. Some days it only lasts a few minutes, other days it's all day long. My dizziness isn't like the room spinning, it feels like I'm standing on a little boat in water, trying to keep my balance. I usually have to lean against or hold on to something at it's worst. I've had every test under the sun with no answer other than anxiety. It's pretty much my new normal now and I have to deal with it.

I've been convinced I have an inner ear issue as well due to exact same symptoms! I'm 24 yr old healthy female as well. Who knows why this happens but I've even had a brain MRI confirm nothing internal in head (masses etc.)

Hi and welcome.

I am sorry to hear of this troubling symptom that you are dealing with presently.

Can I ask what medication you are referring to at the beginning of your post that made things worse?

Was anxiety ever brought up by your doctors, or have you had any other experiences with anxiety issues?

The other symptoms that you list, and the fact that you are getting some relief from the beta blocker do seem to point to anxiety as a probable cause...but only your doctor can tell you for sure.

Another thing that you can try is breathing exercises. Some dizziness is caused by improper breathing (hyperventiliation). When we are stressed we often do this without even being aware of it We have instructions for breathing techniques in our Resources (main page, 1st post) Give them a try, practicing several times a day for 10 min or so, and see how you do.

I hope that you get the answers that you seek soon!

I to am having some ear issues..mostly unbalanced feeling and clogged in my left ear and hear heartbeat. Had MRI and nothing...ENT and nothing. very fustrating. Mine is not nearly like yours but scary with the anxiety non the less. Hang in there. We are all hear for you to vent to and to comfort you.

hi, the medication was pretty much everything for vertigo, different antihistamines, anti nausea, stemetil, cyclizine and a few others. anxiety wasnt mentioned by drs but i no im anxious and always have been but i dealt with it as ive been anxious for a long time i tend to over think things. for years though if i looked at a door i would see it moving it was strange but it didnt bother me. i seen my gp today hes referred me to a neurologist to rule things out. can anxiety really make you feel swaying and in a dream like state like ny bodys noy my own. i think im so afraid as theres nothing anyone can do for me. would an antidepressant help? thanks so much for your lovely replies xx

Dani, I'm a 70 year old male and I had that for several months, my gp gave me a med thats for sea sickness,
all I know is it eventually went away. Your in my Prayers.

Personally I think that I would stick to the beta blocker for now before adding another med. Instead, I would first try some self-help anxiety coping skills.

Try the breathing and progressive muscle relaxation as well as meditation (instuctions for all can be found in our Resources) consistently for a while and see how you feel, and if your dizziness has improved.

If at that point, if you have tried to treat the anxiety/symptom, and still are having issues...then you can go to your doctor and explore the next step.

I hope that you get the answers and relief that you need soon!

does anxiety make people feel like the ground is moving and affected in different lighting and places? its like visual vertigo. im terrified however i dont get panic attacks. at times i would feel sick and get that butterfly feeling and get dizzy for no reason normally when i wake in the morning. but the dizzinessstays with me for the whole day. im wondering now is the beta blockers giving me this horrible hangover feeling ive been having everyday x

If you have noticed an obvious correlation between new symptoms, and when you started your med, then I would definitely suggest calling your doctor to see if this is expected.

It is frustrating trying to distinguish between the two...but having a talk about it with your prescribing doctor could help.

its hard for me to tell as before i was starting my meds it felt like the ground was dropping below me that was the scariest part so my mind was focused on that then when i started the meds that dissappeared and i have this Out of body feeling now i dont know if i had it before the meds or not as i was concentrating on not falling before. im going to start CBT to see if that helps any. im just not convinced that this dizziness and out of body feeling is due to anxiety but maybe thats the anxiety talking i dont know im so afraid of feeling like this forever :(

CBT changed my life!:)

I went from daily panic attacks and pretty severe health anxiety, to managing my anxiety nicely!

It takes time, and you won't see results immediately...most likely it will take several weeks to note a change. Even then, improvement will start slowly, but pick up speed and be more an more apparent as time goes on...even after stopping your sessions!

I still have symptomatic times and struggles here and there...but no more attacks, and in general feel 100% better!
