All medications work differently for different people. No one can attest to how a particular med will work for you.

I've only taken Lexapro twice in my life. Once in my 20's, and I started it again last August. It has worked well for me both times.

I was apprehensive about it the first time, and my doctor gave me a scenario to help me understand how it was to work for me.

He told me to think of my brain as a big warehouse, but I'd lost the map of where everything was stored. Since everything was in such a mess, I was really stressed out. He told me that no med would take away stress, but that it help me organize my warehouse aka my thoughts.

It would make it easier for me to think clearly, and discern what physical symptoms were real and which ones were anxiety. It's worked for me both times.

Using coping skills is imperative during the time your body is adjusting to these meds. Without those, I would have stopped the meds both times. Side effects are frustrating, and can even be scary, but if you learn the skills to work through it, you can come out on the other side feeling great.

The countless reviews on drugs.com are from people's personal experiences. Like Hibee said, we are all different, but I like to read the reviews because if a certain drug works for 80% of people who take it for panic disorder, I know I have a good chance of it working for me. You may be right that if a drug only has a handful of reviews, it is rigged in that drug's favor. But I think it works like Yelp.com where once you reach a certain amount of reviews, those are real people giving their real thoughts.

My SSRI really does work. I take Zoloft for panic and depression and I can tell it's working because I haven't had a panic attack and my depression has lifted enough so that I don't lay in bed anymore and I can actually go out and have fun. Boy, I never thought that was going to be possible!

I tried a few different meds before finding Zoloft (Prozac, Paxil, Welbutrin, Celexa, Buspar) that did not work for me, and I could tell that they didn't work because they didn't make me feel any better, even after months. If a drug works for you, you should feel SOME improvement within the first month.
