Health Anxiety - Worried I have lung cancer

Hi, lately I've been very anxious about lung cancer. I have no family history of lung cancer, but I've been experiencing some symptoms for the last week. I have pain in the right side of my chest that is dull but sometimes worsens upon deep breaths. I also have some back pain. I had these symptoms for 3-4 days and then got congested and have a sore throat. I don't smoke cigarettes, and have smoked weed about twice a month for the last year and a half. I'm definitely going to quit after this scare. I went to the doctor this morning and he said that my lungs sounded fine and there was no wheezing. He also said that if the symptoms continued I should see a doctor and get a chest x-ray. Do I have any legitimate reason to worry, or am I just being silly? I think I'll get a chest x-ray soon. I definitely have health anxiety, and in the past I've thought that I've had a number of different cancers/diseases. Thanks for any help.

i entered the military i thought the exact same thing you did, my ribs on the right side would have a dull ache and my back would hurt also, I went to my Grand Parents Doctor and didnt tell anyone after a good examination he told me not to worry i was much too young to get lung cancer this was in 1958, he was right it was intercostal muscle pain, the muscle between my ribs.
Just one word of caution about the weed, it does effect people different, in my case it made me very violent and prone to do things i would not normally do, even worse than drinking, so be your own judge, Peace

Welcome to the forum but sorry to hear you are dealing with health anxiety it is a tough one to deal with.

Anxiety can cause all sorts of symptoms including the ones you mentioned so do all you can to reduce your anxiety and you may see an improvement in your other symptoms.
