Hey everyone,
It's nice to be back and I hope you all have been well. I haven't been on here much because I was attempting to deal with a family situation that has caused such pain for me. In November, my dad (he was only 46 years old), died of alcoholism. This man was my best friend, my confidant, and the best dad on earth. I'm having horrible insomnia. Right now, it's five in the morning and I haven't been to bed. Do any of you have any sleeping tips?

Dear Mel, welcome back!
I am truly sorry to hear about
your loss :( and I feel your pain.
My dad got treated with alcoholism many years ago and it was a tough journey because he got into a delirium coma (which he had very little chance of surviving) but he managed to wake up in third day and started his treatment. So I really do understand how it feels, those dreadful days are still clearly in my mind.
I used to suffer from insomnia (anxiety related) and after I started caring for sleep hygiene a little more, my sleep improved. Also I used calming techniques like breathing when going to bed.
I used my "empty apartment decorating" thingy, to keep my mind busy so I could go to sleep.
I hope you feel better soon <3

Hi Mel - I'm so sorry about
the passing of your father. :( My mom was 56 when she passed and I thought that was young... 46 is young. Losing a parent is one of the hardest things to go through in the world.
I suffer from insomnia, too. Sometimes, sprinkling some lavender oil on my pillow before bed helps me to relax. I also do some deep breathing or mindfulness sometimes, too. I won't tell you it always works, but if nothing else it does help relax you.

If you Google "sleep hygiene" you will find some lifestyle suggestions that can help with sleep. Beyond that, some people find teas such as chamomile or passion flower tea to be helpful. There are also some sleeping medications, including OTC meds such as Unisom and prescript
ion ones. I have used Zaleplon when I need a prescript
ion sleep aid. Of course, all of this should be done in consultation with a doctor. I am very sorry to hear about
your loss. I cannot imagine....

Hi
My deepest condolences to you and you family. :( sleeping is very important. Are you on Meds? Maybe you can speak to your dr. She may prescribe something to help you. Or try drinking warm milk before you go to bed. Read a book also makes me sleepy. How you get some sleep soon. If you need to chat I'm on during the night if you can't sleep :)

Hi P.M.,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I too lost my father (biological) to the disease...so I know first hand what you are going through.
You've received good advice above, so I'll just add my support...
...and please feel free to e-mail me if you'd like to talk about
our common loss.
