Anxious about upcoming surgery

Hello guys!
I have been having a difficult time. I am having surgery on May 7th and I have been really anxious. I think this may be the cause.

The only medication I have for anxiety is Klonopin that I can take as needed. I just get really anxious about how much is too much. The pills are 0.5 mg. Do any of you take this daily? I have been taking 3-4 of these pills per week.

I am supposed to start Cymbalta soon but did not want to do it right before surgery.

Any help and advise will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!!

Hi AK,

It is natural to feel anxious about an upcoming surgery. I would be feeling the same...not because I think you've reason to be worried...but just because we are 'wired-up' the same way!

Use of your benzo for a definite amount of time, such as now...leading up to your procedure date is fine. You are on a low dose...and at your max 2 mg/week is very conservative.

...add to that the fact that you are planning in starting a daily med for management soon...and won't be relying solely on your Klonopin...you're not at risk for getting dependent.

Be sure to make use of daily coping skills to round out you anxiety management plan...

yep to SC. I have had too many surgeries to count. I just give em a wave and say good night everyone. I am in the safest place and hands, as you are, and you got hw supporting ya too.

Your Klonopin dose is OK. I am on 1 mg per day, 7 days a week.

But if you have questions about it, it's OK to call your doctor just to check.

Surgery is hard, and it's natural to be afraid or stressed. Just rely on your coping skills and friends/family. Talk about your feelings. You'll feel much better if you let the feelings out.
