Alcohol and Lexapro

Hi everyone!
I haven't posted here in awhile because I forgot my login. Oops. lol but I'm back and I have a question.

I'm taking 10mg of Lexapro every night and I've been doing pretty good on it. However last night, despite knowing that you're not suppose to mix this drug with alcohol, I didn't think it would hurt to have a little bit to drink because I never ever do. I drank 2 wine coolers (segrems strawberry daiquiri--very good! lol) and took my pill at like 2 am. I stopped drinking around 12:30. I was fine until I went to bed after I took the pill. I started to feel very anxious...I had chills, my legs were a bit shaky, and of course I couldn't get my mind off this. I'm sure it's normal to have increased anxiety after mixing Lexapro and alcohol but I just wanted to see if anybody else has had experience with it. Luckily I was able to get a little sleep but I still feel nervous this morning. So to those with experience or knowledge...is that normal? Also is it okay for me to take another pill tonight around my normal time (like 10pm). Not sure if it matters. (If I did that it would be like 2 pills in like 20 hours)

I guess I learned my lesson! My 21st birthday is next months and it looks like I won't be drinking!

Yes, alcohol and A/D's can be problematic for some people...either exacerbating alcohol's effects , or rendering the medication less effective.

Some doctors say light drinking is okay, while others say abstaining is best...so it seems to he how an individual tolerates the two...

Sorry this happened, and I hope you are feeling better now. As far as getting back on schedule, yes, you will be fine taking your med at your regular time tonight.:)

My opinion has changed on this I used to feel that it was best not to drink any alcohol whilst taking antidepressants but now I do have the occasional drink but I never over do it and usually have a max of 3 drinks and have not had any problems.

Saying that the times I have drank more than that I have really suffered the next few days with an increase in symptoms and generally not feeling well.

Lexapro is a good medication but I found it was better to take in the morning as it is very activating so can cause sleep problems.
