My partner plays loud rock/punk music at home ALL day long. We have a tiny flat and the music is driving me MAD. It never stops. I work PT as a teacher and do my prep in the morning. The music is on all the time. I can hardly thin - I have to use headphones. As soon as I get up in the morning it starts. I can't wait to get out of the flat during the day. he work at home as a write but seems to do sweet FA. I think he's trying to drive me nuts. I have asked him to turn it down but he tells me I'm destroying his life.

odd post for this forum.......
*not entirely...loud noises are a trigger for many anxiety sufferers...and relationship conflict is a huge stressor*

Hi Zenith and welcome to the A/P!
I am sorry to hear about
this issue with your bf. I completely understand, as loud noise can be a trigger for my anxiety as well. (and sometimes migraines)
I am puzzled by his reaction to your request to turn the music down. 'Ruining his life' seems a dramatic response to a simple request. I suspect this might not be the only issue at hand here maybe?
I agree that noise cancelling headphones are a simple solution...*IF* there was comprimise involved. Like, say...if he only played music for part of the day...or if you switched off...him listening on headphones for half the time. However, for you to have to endure loud music/wear headphones all day, everyday...that is not reasonable!
Hopefully you can come to a fair agreement where you can both have what you want, part of the time...
...However, if he's unwilling to comprimise...or there are other issues in your relationship where it's HIS way or nothing, then I would suggest doing some thinking about
whether you want to stay in it.
Just my opinion here...it is a personal decision that you will have to come to yourself...and we support you either way.
Keep us updated, so we can keep you in support!

That would drive me crazy but I too am noise sensitive, depending on the noise. Hard or repetative noises are what makes it hard for me. Race track noise or hard rock, etc especially if it's the same thing over and over again. Hopefully, he will compromise and turn it down a bit, maybe you could wear the cushier small ear plugs, but if not is there somewhere else you can go to get ready for the day? I know, that's not fair but it just depends on which you'd rather do. Listen with ear plugs or get out of there or dump his butt. Wondering, does he really know how much it bothers you? Has he actually listened to know it's not about
noise you don't like but noise that really messes you up?
