my Dr is tryina desperately take me off Ativan which helps me TREMENDOUSLY!!!!! Does ne1 have other suggestions???

buspar or vistoril. both non benzo -non addictive. Ativan is a extremely effective drug but long. term uses carries the risk of addiction. how long have you been taking it ? I take an ssri and it is the only drug I need to avoid anxiety. believe me you do not want to be come dependent on a benzo. getting off is very long and often most unplesant

I am sorry to hear that you are facing what is sure to be an intimidating transition. I get how you must feel. Changes in our management can be scary.

A lot of doctors are lessening/discontinuing their practice of prescribing benzos. While it is important to use this medication carefully...I think this is an unfair knee jerk reaction that is adversely affecting many who are responsible, yet still need this Rx for their management plan.

I hope that you can talk with him/her about a long/slow discontinuation...and about your options. I second the recommendation of the Hydroxyzine/Vistaril as a possible alternative.
