Hello Everyone,

The past few months, I have been feeling acute financial stress. I feel like I am just barely getting by with my salary. Fortunately I will be getting a big pay raise in June. In spite of this I feel depressed and down. I try to save as much as I can and I don't really go out but I feel like there is only so much I can save and put away. I have applied for a few part time jobs. I have followed up in person only to be told that the positions were filled. I'm like "Why did you guys even post the jobs to begin with". I will keep pressing on and try to find a part time but the stress is getting to me.

Does anyone have any coping tips for financial stress?

Financial stress is some of the worst. We need money to survive, plain and simple.

Finding things to do in the home saves money. I don't go out and I still struggle. I find I like brand name products and that costs more, but when I buy cheaper stuff it doesn't last as long or even cut it.

I think finding a part time job is smart. But don't spread yourself too thin. You need to be able to enjoy your life. Saving is good, but sometimes we can't save as much as we would like.

Know you are doing better than many. If you have a little or are making ends meet, you are doing good. You said you get a big pay raise in June, that is only six months away. Try to do some breathing exercises and relax and don't beat yourself up. The economy isn't great, I think you are doing good. Hang in there...

Yes I agree. I don't really go out that much. If I do, it's something I plan in advance. I don't just willy nilly go out somewhere.
I own my home too. It's a small home-about 1200 Sq ft- but I feel like it has taken a lot of my money to maintain. Roof leak. Hot water heater. New faucets. My home is better off. I am considering selling it after I put a new roof on and renting a houses instead buying another one.
I regret buying to begin with. I would have been better off renting. Even though rent is somewhat higher, I could have spared myself the headaches.

I don't know If I will ever go back to buying another house. I like my home but I constantly worry about things breaking.

At one time in my life, I felt financial anxiety. But when I made more money, I just felt anxious about other things instead. I think some of us are just wired to have anxiety.

It is always something when you own a home. I am lucky, mine is paid for, but I have taxes which is hard to come up with twice a year. But I am glad I own mine, it is small too though I have 7 acres of property with trees. But believe me in life, it really is always something coming up. Something needs to be fixed or something needs to be replaced. But that is life. Things get old and wear out. Parts break. I guess it is what it is. Always challenges. Though if you were renting, you would have to depend on the land owner to fix things or do you get renter's insurance? I would hate to have to rent again.

I hope you are able to sell if that is what you want to do. At least that way you are turning it into equity. That is something in your favor. I hope you have a good night. It is 7:19 pm here. Dark...

This is true but at the same time, if something broke and needed fixing, I wouldn't be on the hook for it. It would be their responsibility. Where I live, there are a lot of new townhomes that are being built for rent that are pretty reasonable. If something were to go wrong, then it would be on them to fix. There is always a trade off between renting vs owning. my issue with these home repairs is that for most of them I will not see the ROI on them except for the roof.

I completely understood what your going through. I wish could offer you some good advice, but I'm in the same predicament.

I have a crap load of student debt and other bills. The only thing that's helping me is focusing on other things.

A part time job is a great idea. I'm thinking of getting one as well. Hopefully, we'll get financial stable.

I can see your point of view. And it is all well and good as long as they fix things in a timely manner. But it sounds like there would be somebody there all the time managing things like that. I hope. I think you are right, there is good and bad to both. I hope it works out for you. Try taking it one day at a time. Keeps the anxiety down.

I get nervous when I know I'll have to pay a large bill soon. For example, in 2004, I realized that I needed dental work, and I feared that I'd have to pay a lot to have my dental issues fixed. I had almost no dental insurance at the time.
