I've been a patient in mental hospitals and psychiatric wards more than once.
And while I was there, the psychiatrists would typically wear suit and ties, while patients like me were wearing just regular, everyday clothing. Just jeans and a sweatshirt (pretty much).
I also noticed that some of the other patients didn't like the fact that the doctors were dressed up while the rest of us weren't. It gave some of them the feeling that it was us against them. I felt that was unfortunate.
That's why I think that psychiatrists who work in hospitals shouldn't be dressed up in suit and ties, or at least not that much.
I wouldn't want the doctors to be wearing messy clothing, of course. But do they really need to be dressed up in suit and ties considering that it bothers some of the patients in the hospitals?
